ASPERIA, a special section of the Alessandria Chamber of Commerce (Italy), has launched the 4th edition of the International Barbera Competition.
The Competition has become one of the most important mono-varietal competition for number of entries, and is progressively gaining worldwide recognition.
In order to further develop the participation of Barbera produced outside Italy, a collaboration has been set up with Vinquiry in California and Provisor in South Australia.
Producers of American and Australian Barbera samples can deliver their samples - within October 3rd 2008 - respectively to:
VINQUIRY, 7795 Bell Rd., Windsor, CA 95492, Tel. +1 707-838-6312, or
PROVISOR, Hartley Grove Urrbrae SA 5064, Tel. +61 8 8303 8702. A collective shipping to Italy of all samples collected in the two countries will be done under controlled conditions and without charge for participants.
This new organisation will make participation even easier and less expensive, and it guarantees the wine is kept under suitable conditions during the whole process. The Competition has also partially changed its Regulations with respect with the past editions, to further improve the evaluation phases: a larger number of wines will be admitted to the final tasting; all wines receiving a score equal or greater than 88/100 will be granted with a Gold Medal; the absolute best score for each Category will identify the winner of a Special Prize.
The producer of the BEST FOREIGN BARBERA (Special Prize assigned to wines belonging to Category 4 [foreign wines produced from the Barbera grape (50% minimum)] which have obtained the highest point score) will be invited to participate the Award Cerimony in Italy at Competition expenses.
The Competition will receive financial support from the Piedmont Region, the Province of Alessandria and the Foundation Savings and Loan Company of Alessandria. It will be promoted by the Alessandria Chamber of Commerce.
VINIDEA is in charge of the logistic and technical part of the Competition.
