WICA’S INNOVATION CATALOGUE
The Innovation Catalogue is a showcase of brilliant ideas from the “The Wine Industry of Tomorrow” crowd-writing contest organized by The Wine Innovation Collaboration Alliance – WICA, which included 9 different scenarios, under 3 main themes: Grape-growing, Winemaking, and Management & Marketing.
Supplier companies in the wine sector were called to complete these challenging scenarios, integrating their innovative solutions. In total, 45 companies participated, resulting in 85 stories.

SOLUTIONS FOR WINE MAKING
Regarding winemaking, the WICA’s catalogue is proposing solutions linked to the following challenges:
Decrease energy and water consumption in the winery
Reduce use of additives in winemaking
Adapt production in response to market requests
How to reduce the use of additives?
Winemakers can choose among 15 solutions such as the use of microbiological and biological protection of musts, biological acidification techniques, specific monitoring tools to better control potential spoilage, engineering systems to better automate and monitor their process in order to take action at the right time, solutions to predict the sulfur dioxide stability during wine storage, physical processes to improve tartaric stabilization and acidification of the wines.

The Wine Innovation Collaboration Alliance – WICA is the network created by the EPAWI project. WICA is an association which aims to promote and improve the collaborative innovation and internationalization of the wine production value chain in order to foster its sustainable development and competitiveness.
Bringing together all the initiatives that provide not only practical solutions but also an improvement in efficiency, connectivity and sustainability, WICA proposes expertise of the wine market, including knowledge and contacts, support in developing collaborative projects with wine industry stakeholders, and international development for innovators.
