The Municipal Theater of Vila Real, in the middle of the beautiful Douro valley, hosted in June 4-5, 2014 the fourth edition of Infowine.Forum, the most important congress on viticulture and enology of Portugal, attended by about 250 domestic and international delegates.

On June 4th, a key session of the congress was devoted to the project, with the title “Eco-Prowine: Development of an European tool for sustainability”. It represented a good opportunity to present the project and promote winery participation in front of a wide number of decision makers within the wine industry.

The session was opened by Gianni Trioli – Vinidea – explaining the general goal of the project and the base principle, and bringing the first results obtained on the environmental and economic impact of the most important inputs of the wine production process.

Thomas Papapolyzos of Hypertech described the web tool functions to attendees, and showed how a winery can run the auto-evaluation on-line. Angela Sacchi (Catholic University of Piacenza) discussed the different type of environmental labels, and explained the reason leading Eco-Prowine toward its choice. Gianni Trioli closed the session by detailing the procedure to enter the project and inviting attendees to join the pilot winery group.

The initiative attracted the attention of the local television, and of several winery representatives.
