The 2021 edition of ENOFORUM Italia took place on May 18-19-20 in virtual form, due to the continuing restrictions of the COVID emergency.
Despite the lack of in-person comparative tastings and interviews with company experts in a live exhibition area, this virtual conference concentrated all organizational attention on the presentation element of the event, which was particularly rich in quality content.
The most significant record of Enoforum Italia 2021 pertains to the amount of new knowledge made available to technicians: 65 speakers took to the virtual stage. Over a third of the presenters hailed from outside of Italy: from France, Australia, Spain, Chile, Brazil. Forty scientific reports were given by public researchers, and 25 by experts from leading supplier companies who detailed the more operational aspects of the innovations.
Overall, Enoforum 2021 lasted 24 hours, divided into 3 morning sessions in Italian and 3 afternoon sessions with presentations in different languages and simultaneous translation in Italian and English: it is the largest worldwide program ever presented for a viticulture conference in the web environment.
The Enoforum Italia program included 20 papers selected by the Enoforum Contest international scientific committee of 86 members, containing research results considered the most innovative and most responsive to the needs of the production world.
With 2480 participants, Enoforum Italia 2021 was the Italian edition with the record number of participants, far surpassing both Enoforum Spagna Web 2020 (2000 participants) and Enoforum USA Virtual of 5-6 May 2021 (1400 participants); however, Enoforum Italia did not beat the world record for attendance at a wine congress, which remains in the hands of Enoforum Web Conference, also organized by VINIDEA in February 2021, which saw the participation of 5500 professionals in the sector thanks to simultaneous translation in 4 languages.
Enoforum Italia 2021 was organized by VINIDEA and SIVE, with the patronage of OIV, MIPAAFT, the Veneto Region and ODAF of Milan, and with the collaboration of Oenoppia, SIMEI-UIV and Assoenologi. Several leading companies in the sector (AB Biotek, CHR Hansen, Dal Cin, Enartis, Enologica Vason, Ever, HTS Enologia, I-Oak, ISVEA, Laffort, Lallemand, Oenobrands, Oenofrance, Perdomini IOC, UIV, VCR) have contributed quality to the conference program and supported it financially.
Finally, the magazines MilleVigne, Il Corriere Vinicolo, L’Enologo, as well as INFOWINE – Internet magazine of Viticulture and Oenology contributed to publicising the event; the latter magazine will also publish audio-video recordings of all the reports presented in 2021 at Enoforum Italia, Enoforum USA and Enoforum Web Conference. in the coming months.
