Climate change is having a major impact on agriculture in the Mediterranean region, especially on perennial crops such as vines. To meet these challenges, the European Climed-Fruit project aims to collect and disseminate practical, ready-to-use knowledge to improve adaptation to and mitigation of climate change in this sector.
The project is led by a multidisciplinary consortium of consultants, farmers’ associations, research institutes, education and training centres and a standardisation body. Climed-Fruit is based on the achievements of nine Operational Groups (OG) across Europe and aims to enable the direct transfer of knowledge between researchers and professionals.
Among the practices compiled by Climed-Fruit, we highlight four innovative solutions applicable to the wine sector that have proven their effectiveness in improving the resilience of vineyards to extreme weather conditions. The practices described are presented in ‘Factsheets’ and ‘Digital Stories’ (short videos), which explain their origins, offer technical advice on how to implement them and include a simplified analysis of the costs and benefits involved.
