First meeting of the 'school in the vineyard' project
Winter vine pruning
As part of Action 5 of the RIPRESO Project, the first session of the 'school in the vineyard' training workshop was held on 25th February 2022 for the residents of the therapeutic community La Vela. The group went to the Social Agricultural Cooperative I Perinelli to learn about winter vine pruning through a practical activity.
The students were initially given some necessary information about the phenological cycle of the vine and the operations that are carried out during the year. Then under the guidance of Giulio Vecchio, the winemaker of the I Perinelli winery, they learnt the basics of winter pruning on Guyot-trained vines. After understanding the process of choosing the fruiting head and spur, the students did a pruning test on dedicated rows.
Three more training courses are planned in the vineyards of the I Perinelli company, which will focus on different canopy management techniques and harvesting.
