New technical solutions to reduce water stress in vineyards
IN+VITE project presented at Enoforum Italia 2023
During the first day of the international congress Enoforum Italia 2023, held in Vicenza May 16-18, Tommaso Frioni of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Piacenza presented the IN+VITE Innovation Operating Group.
The new project funded by Measure 16.1.01 Focus Area 4B of the 2014-2020 Emilia-Romagna RDP started on Feb. 7, 2023. The main objective is to develop new vineyard management systems that can solve some of the most important problems of Emilia-Romagna hillside viticulture, including the negative effects of water scarcity on the vineyard at the growing stage and on the productive vineyard.
One of the solutions that will be studied in depth and tested by IN+VITE partners is the use of hydrogels in viticulture, in order to improve the tolerance of the non-irrigated vineyard to water shortage, reduce failures at planting, anticipate entry into production, and contain yield losses in the older vineyards.
