The importance of transport for the total greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of wine is discussed with reference to: effects of transport mode used (road, rail, sea, air); effects of transport mode on lifecycle GHG emissions of wines; opportunities for reduction of GHG emissions by reduction of packaging material wt. and selection of appropriate transport mode; and emissions tradeoff between transport and regional GHG vineyard emissions. (We recommend that you consult the full text of this article)
