Artificial intelligence (AI) helps face the adversities of climate change and gives an early and accurate forecast of vineyard yields

Artificial intelligence (AI) helps face the adversities of climate change and gives an early and accurate forecast of vineyard yields

In the following videos related to the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), we propose two very interesting interventions by Research Groups specialized in Digital Agriculture, Food and Wine.

Sigfredo Fuentes, of the University of Melbourne, will present a five-year research work entitled "How Artificial Intelligence (AI) is Helping Winemakers Cope with the Adversity of Climate Change". These are new technologies based on Artificial Intelligence to monitor the growth of the vineyard; using the analysis of computer vision and grape maturity, based on the death of grape cells, with the aim of predicting the gustatory and aromatic profiles of grapes and finished wines.

The work "New AI-based system for early and accurate forecasting of vineyard yields" by José Cuevas-Valenzuela, presents a new system based on precision viticulture, cost-effective, fast and accurate for forecasting the yield in the vineyard, developed at the Research and Innovation Center of Viña Concha y Toro. The forecast of the yield in the vineyard is a fundamental issue for the planning of the harvest and the optimization of the winemaking operations; to date, there can be forecast errors of up to 20-30% per block. With this system, the forecast error is reduced to below 10% per block, since the new system detects and exploits the spatial variability of the vineyard in a very useful way, and is flexible and adaptable to different forms of cultivation and to any vineyard size.
